We are finally in Oregon after spending a wonderful two days in Park City, Utah with Don's brother Jim and wife Tina. Park City is about 20 miles from Salt Lake City. It is a tourist town and was host to the winter Olympic in 2002. It has a huge ski resort so the population is much larger in the winter than in the summer. It is also the home of the Sundance film festival which is usually held each January. While we were in Park City, we attended the city's 4th of July pancake breakfast and parade. I am including pictures from these events. The parade was one of the best I have attended. The evening events included a barbeque , rodeo and fireworks. The rodeo was held in a small town near Park City by the name of Oakley. We watched bucking broncos, steer wrestling and roping, and bull riding.
On Saturday we drove all day and finally arrived at our destination of Baker City, Oregon. It is a really cute little town with beautiful landscapes and mountains. We visited the Oregon Interpretive Museum while we were here. It tells more about the journeys on the Oregon trail with a lot of historical information and artifacts. It also has a self guided walking tour.
Today we are driving to Portland to see Kathleen and family. We will be so glad to get to a spot we can settle for awhile. We are really tired of driving. We are not used to the time difference either and are still on eastern time, so we are very tired.
Portland here we come!
